Winterville site

The Winterville site is an archaeological complex in western Mississippi preserving earthwork platform mounds and a central plaza built by Plaquemine Mississippian peoples. The site dates to roughly 1200 to 1500 CE and contains multiple raised mounds arranged around a public plaza.

On site visitors can see the earthen mounds and the plaza layout that once supported public buildings, rituals, and elite residences. An interpretive center and short trails explain the archaeology and significance of the site and display information about excavations and the people who built the mounds.

The site lies in the Mississippi Delta region near Greenville, Mississippi, set within a rural landscape of agricultural land and low-lying river plain. It is managed for preservation and public education about pre-Columbian Southeastern archaeology.
