Main image

Whistler Mountain is a prominent peak in British Columbia and forms one-half of the Whistler Blackcomb ski and recreation area. Its summit sits at approximately 2,182 metres and it is a principal destination for alpine skiing and mountain recreation.

Alpine terrain on and around the mountain is used for winter skiing and summer hiking and mountain biking, with lift access and marked trails from Whistler Village at the base. The mountain is linked to neighboring Blackcomb Mountain by the Peak 2 Peak gondola, allowing cross-peak access for skiers and tourists and offering extended views across the Coast Mountains.

The area was developed as a major alpine resort in the 20th century and served as a venue for alpine events during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Infrastructure includes multiple lift systems, ski runs and summer visitor facilities clustered around the village.

The mountain lies inland from Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky corridor, about two hours by road north of the city, within the Coast Mountains of southwestern British Columbia.

  • Seasonal highlights: Winter is the primary season for alpine skiing and snowboarding; summer draws hikers, mountain bikers and alpine sightseeing.
  • Access and views: The summit area is reached by lifts from Whistler Village, with panoramic views over the Coast Mountains on clear days.
