Westerpark (park)

Westerpark is a public park and cultural district in the Amsterdam-West borough of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It combines green open space with a converted industrial complex, the Westergasfabriek, which serves as a cultural and events hub.

The park offers lawns, tree-lined paths, ponds and informal recreation areas, while the Westergasfabriek complex contains exhibition halls, restaurants and event spaces used for markets, concerts and festivals. The combination of landscaped parkland and adaptive reuse of industrial buildings is a major draw for both local residents and visitors.

The park occupies the site of a 19th-century gasworks that was decommissioned and later redeveloped; the industrial buildings were repurposed for cultural uses during late 20th and early 21st century regeneration of the area. The redevelopment preserved much of the industrial architecture while adding public green space.

Westerpark sits northwest of Amsterdam’s historic centre in the borough known as Amsterdam-West, adjacent to the Westergasfabriek cultural site and linked to surrounding neighbourhoods by public transport and cycle routes.
