West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village is an open-air museum and reconstructed early medieval settlement in Suffolk, England that interprets an Anglo-Saxon site excavated on the location. It presents building reconstructions and archaeological displays to illustrate daily life in the early medieval period.

The site features timber house reconstructions, craft workshops and visible earthworks from the original settlement, alongside a museum with finds from the excavation. It is used for education, archaeology demonstrations and public events that recreate aspects of Anglo-Saxon domestic and craft life.

Archaeological excavations at West Stow were carried out in the 1960s and 1970s under archaeologist Stanley West; the reconstructions and museum were developed subsequently to present the settlement to visitors. The reconstructions are explicitly based on the on-site archaeological evidence rather than on literary sources.

The village sits near the current hamlet of West Stow and the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England, in a rural landscape of fields and hedgerows. The site is accessible from local roads and is managed as a public heritage attraction.
