West Potomac Park

West Potomac Park is a federal urban park in Washington, D.C., on the southwest side of the National Mall that includes the Tidal Basin and several major memorials. It functions as a landscaped public space connecting the Mall to riverside areas.

The park’s features include the Tidal Basin lined with cherry trees, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial; paths link the park with the Lincoln Memorial and the broader National Mall. It is heavily visited in spring for the cherry blossoms and year-round for memorial visits and recreation.

The park was developed as part of Washington’s planned monumental core and has been managed by federal agencies for landscape preservation and public access. Over time planting, pathways and memorial constructions have defined its present-day appearance.

West Potomac Park lies along the Potomac River across from the Washington Channel and is adjacent to the National Mall in the District of Columbia, within easy walking distance of downtown Washington.
