Wentworth Park
Park Inner-city sporting ground hosting greyhound racing
Inner‑city oval and park in Glebe with a history of greyhound racing, sporting fields and riverside paths; regular community events, picnic lawns and proximity to Sydney Harbour draw visitors.
Wentworth Park is an urban park and sporting complex in the inner-west of Sydney, Australia, located in the suburb of Glebe. The site includes a dedicated greyhound racing stadium, a large grassed oval and associated spectator facilities.
The greyhound track hosts regular race meetings and the oval is used for community sports and events; pathways and foreshore promenades connect the park to adjacent waterfront and parkland areas. The venue combines both organised sporting facilities and open public space for passive recreation.
The park was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as recreational land for the growing city and has retained its role as a sporting and community hub. Infrastructure has been adapted over time to support racing, spectator facilities and public access.
Wentworth Park sits about 2 to 4 km west of the Sydney central business district on the edge of Rozelle Bay and Blackwattle Bay, adjacent to inner-city suburbs and connected by roads and local public transport.
- Greyhound stadium and sports oval: The park contains a fenced greyhound racing stadium and an oval used for sports and community events, with regular racing and local sporting fixtures throughout the year.
- Proximity to Sydney CBD: Located close to Sydney's central business district, the park is reachable by short drive or public transport from the city centre and inner suburbs.
How to Get to Wentworth Park #
Wentworth Park is a short walk from Sydney’s CBD: from Wynyard or Central Station take a bus toward Rozelle/Leichhardt and alight near Great North Road, or walk (roughly 20-30 minutes) from Town Hall along Harris and Bathurst Streets toward the Anzac Bridge. On busy event nights allow extra time for traffic and parking.
Tips for Visiting Wentworth Park #
- If arriving by train, alight at Central Station and use the short walk via Bathurst Street to avoid the busier George Street approach
- Check the greyhound racing schedule in advance - race nights change the feel of the park completely
- The small promenade beside the oval contains plaques that mark sporting history; they reward a slow walk around the perimeter
