Wat Tham Seua Travel Guide

Wat Tham Seua (Tiger Cave Temple) provides fantastic views and lies a few minutes outside Krabi Town. It is one of the most prominent temples in the region, although you’ll need good legs to traverse the 1,200-plus steps to the higher viewpoints.

Wat Tham Seua garners its name from the fact that a tiger used to live in a nearby cave, which is now part of the monastery. The temple and cave are set high up amid lush forest, but to get to the chedi and Buddha images you will need to climb up 1,237 steps. The views from up here are absolutely magnificent, taking in forests, a karst limestone landscape and the Andaman Sea.

Along with Wat Tham Seua is the neighboring Wat Tham Khao Noi, which although looks a part of the former, is actually a different entity.

Getting There & Away

Wat Tham Seua is around 10kms from Krabi Town and is easiest to visit by motorbike, hire car or on a tour as it is not on any direct route. You could get here by tuk-tuk from Krabi Town or Ao Nang, but would really need to charter one for the day to be sure of getting back. Krabi Airport is the closest air facility to the temple, which is just 20 minutes from Krabi Town.
