Wat Jong Sung and Wat Si Boonruang at a Glance#
About Wat Jong Sung and Wat Si Boonruang#
These two Shan-style temples, both originally built in the 19th century, are eye-catching examples of Shan temple architecture, so remember to bring a camera. Both are active temples, and you are likely to pass rooms where novices are learning or monks are chanting.
Your eyes are drawn upward by the delightfully decorated rooftops of the viharn and the soaring spires of the chedi at each temple. Wat Jong Sung has three chedi around a hundred years old, and they are beginning to show their age, with vegetation sprouting from cracks in the plaster. Wat Si Boonruang is in somewhat better shape, and the filigree work on its rooftops appears to have been recently retouched, creating a stunning sight.
