Washington Monument in Baltimore is an early 19th-century memorial to George Washington located in the Mount Vernon neighborhood, completed in 1829. It is an axial landmark at the center of a roundabout on North Charles Street and is historically significant as one of the first large monuments to Washington in the United States.

The monument contains an internal stair and an upper viewing platform that offers direct views across the Mount Vernon cultural district and toward downtown Baltimore. Parkland and formal squares around the monument host cultural institutions and pedestrian routes, making it a focal point for short walks and neighborhood sightlines.

Designed by architect Robert Mills, construction began in the 1810s and the structure was finished in 1829; it was funded largely by public subscription from the city of Baltimore. The monument has served as a civic landmark and has undergone conservation work to preserve its stonework and iron fixtures.

The site sits in the Mount Vernon Historic District, immediately north of downtown Baltimore and adjacent to the Walters Art Museum and Washington Place. It occupies a central position on North Charles Street within the city grid.

  • Height: 178 feet (54 m) tall and completed in 1829, it was one of the earliest major monuments to George Washington.
