Warrabah National Park protects the Namoi River’s sandstone gorges in New South Wales, offering river swimming, canoeing, rock climbing and bushwalking; campsites cater to paddlers and weekend campers.

Main image

Warrabah National Park is a compact protected area in New South Wales centred on a sandstone gorge carved by the Namoi River. The park preserves riparian vegetation, cliffs and rock platforms and is used for low-impact recreation.

Short walking tracks and river pools are the principal visitor draws, with opportunities for bushwalking, birdwatching, informal swimming and paddling where conditions permit. Camping is available at informal or small maintained sites rather than large developed campgrounds.

The area was set aside to conserve the gorge environment and native plants and animals and to provide local outdoor recreation; management focuses on minimal-impact visitor facilities. The landscape is dominated by sandstone cliffs and riverine woodland.

The park lies in northern New South Wales, near the small rural townships in the Northern Tablelands; it is roughly 60 kilometres north of Tamworth and close to local service towns in that region.

  • River gorge and river access: The park protects a steep sandstone gorge cut by the Namoi River and offers river access points for paddling and swimming in defined areas.
  • Access and services: Nearest larger service centres are in the New England/Northern Tablelands region; the park is most easily reached by road from nearby rural towns.
