Wapusk National Park is a large national park in northern Manitoba, Canada, established to protect subarctic coastal landscapes and wildlife along the western shore of Hudson Bay. The park is particularly important for polar bears, which use the area for maternal denning, and for migratory birds that rely on its wetlands.

The park is remote and largely roadless; access is typically via Churchill or by chartered aircraft and guided tours are the main means for visitors to reach key wildlife viewing areas. The landscape comprises tundra, peatlands and a long coastline on Hudson Bay with seasonal sea-ice influence.

Wapusk was established in the mid 1990s to conserve critical habitat for polar bears and other species and to protect traditional Indigenous uses of the land. It lies east and northeast of Churchill, Manitoba, on the Hudson Bay coast in the subarctic region.

The park’s coastline and interior wetlands are most active for wildlife viewing in late winter to spring when polar bears emerge from dens and in summer for migratory bird concentrations.

  • Polar bear habitat: One of Canada's largest subarctic parks, it protects important polar bear maternity denning areas along the Hudson Bay coastline and extensive coastal wetlands.
