Wadi Shab

Wadi Shab is a popular wadi (river canyon) in Oman’s Ash Sharqiyah region known for its narrow gorges, clear pools and a cave with a waterfall. It is a natural attraction visited for swimming, canyon walking and short hikes.

A hike through a rocky canyon that leads to a series of deep turquoise pools and a cavern with a perennial spring and small waterfall; many visitors swim or wade to reach the cave. Access typically involves a short boat transfer from the coastal parking area across the inlet and then a marked walking route along the canyon of roughly 40-60 minutes each way.

The wadi has been a traditional freshwater site used by local communities and has become a widely visited natural attraction in recent decades. Infrastructure at the access point is basic and visitor numbers peak in the cooler months.

Wadi Shab sits along Oman’s eastern coast in Ash Sharqiyah, between the towns along the coastal road that connects Muscat with Sur. The canyon opens to the sea at a narrow inlet and is accessed from the coastal parking and boat landing near the village/roadside area.

• Practicalities: Carry water and sun protection; parts of the trail require rock scrambling and can be slippery after rain.
