Wabakimi Provincial Park is a remote wilderness provincial park in northwestern Ontario that protects large tracts of boreal forest and freshwater systems. It is one of Ontario’s largest protected provincial parks and is widely known for its extensive canoe routes.

The park’s main attractions are multi-day backcountry canoe trips that follow river systems and link numerous lakes. Routes range from short day trips to remote expeditions lasting a week or more, with opportunities to see moose, beaver and a variety of boreal birds. There are no developed overnight facilities in most of the park - campsites are primitive and visitors must be self-reliant.

The area was set aside to protect vast tracts of boreal wilderness and traditional canoe routes; its management emphasizes backcountry recreation and habitat conservation. Over time the park’s boundaries and management plans have been adjusted to balance recreation and conservation needs.

Geographically the park sits in the boreal zone of northwestern Ontario, well north of major urban centres and surrounded by mixed forest and numerous lakes and rivers. The nearest small communities provide limited services; most access is by logging roads, floatplane or canoe from trailheads.

  • Access and services: Access is primarily by canoe, floatplane or long backcountry routes; services are minimal and trip planning must be self-sufficient.
  • Wilderness canoe routes: The park protects extensive boreal forest and a network of rivers and lakes used for multi-day paddling routes.
