W-Arly-Pendjari Complex
Nature Reserve Transboundary protected savannah supporting West African large mammals
A transboundary protected area of savanna and woodland in Benin, the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex supports elephants, lions and large ungulates; visitors come for guided wildlife safaris and birdwatching.
The W-Arly-Pendjari Complex is a transboundary suite of protected parks and reserves in West Africa covering major savanna ecosystems across Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger, recognised for its wildlife and conservation importance.
The current protected-area network grew from national park and reserve designations in the 20th century and subsequent cooperative conservation efforts to maintain habitat connectivity and safeguard populations of wide-ranging species across national borders.
The complex occupies a belt of protected lands in the far west of the Sahel and Sudanian savanna zone, spanning northern Benin, southeastern Burkina Faso and southwestern Niger.
- Transboundary conservation: The complex spans protected areas across multiple countries and is important for large savanna mammals and ongoing cross-border conservation of West African biodiversity.

- Pendjari National Park: Pendjari National Park in Benin, known for savanna ecosystems, large herbivores and significant predator populations within the complex.
