Vosstaniya Square

Vosstaniya Square is a central transport and public square in St. Petersburg, Russia, located at the northern end of Nevsky Prospect and forming a major arrival point to the city. It functions as one of the city’s principal transport hubs and sits immediately in front of the city’s main rail terminal.

The square is dominated by transport infrastructure and heavy pedestrian flows rather than large open lawns or parkland. It provides direct access to long-distance and commuter trains, multiple tram and bus lines, and connects to the city centre via Nevsky Prospect and adjacent streets. The adjoining station forecourt and underground interchange concentrate ticket offices, taxi ranks and surface transport stops in a compact area.

The square grew up around the Moskovsky rail terminal and the city’s expanding transport network in the 19th and 20th centuries, and its modern identity is closely tied to rail and metro operations. Its name commemorates the 1917 revolutionary period, and the area has undergone multiple urban redevelopments to accommodate increasing passenger volumes.

Located in the Tsentralny district of St. Petersburg, Vosstaniya Square sits immediately outside Moskovsky railway station where Nevsky Prospect, Ligovsky Prospekt and several radial streets converge. It is in the heart of the city and within walking distance of central landmarks along Nevsky Prospect.
