Vonavona is an island in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands and part of the New Georgia island group. It sits within a complex of channels and shallow lagoons that characterise this part of the archipelago.
The island is home to Melanesian communities who have lived in the New Georgia islands for generations and who rely on fishing and small-scale agriculture. The wider New Georgia area was significant during World War II, but local settlement and customary use have continued since.
Vonavona lies between New Georgia and Rendova within Western Province, Solomon Islands. The nearest major settlement with an airport is Munda on New Georgia, which is the usual regional access point.
