Villa Cimbrone

Villa Cimbrone is a historic villa and garden complex on the hill above the town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Campania, Italy. It is best known for its early 20th-century restorations and its cliff-edge gardens, especially the Terrazza dell’Infinito (Terrace of Infinity).

The site is visited primarily for the formal gardens and the Terrace of Infinity, which provides uninterrupted views over the Gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi coastline. The planted terraces contain classical statuary, stone belvederes and formal garden compartments that step down the slope.

The villa complex was adapted and extensively restored in the early 20th century by the English owner Ernest William Beckett, later Lord Grimthorpe, who shaped much of the present garden layout and decorative features. The core site has earlier medieval origins, but the current appearance dates largely from that early 20th-century restoration.

Villa Cimbrone sits on a promontory above the town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, giving it elevated sea views; Ravello itself is inland from the town of Amalfi and accessible by the coastal road network.
