Vihren

Vihren is the highest peak of the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria and reaches an elevation of 2,914 metres. It is a prominent limestone summit within Pirin National Park and a common objective for experienced hikers and climbers.

Routes to the summit include steep scree and rocky sections, with marked trails leading from mountain huts and valley approaches; the nearby Koncheto ridge is a noted high-exposure traverse. The peak and its surroundings feature alpine flora, glacial cirques and rugged karst terrain.

Vihren has long been part of regional mountaineering activity and is managed within the national park framework that protects landscapes and biodiversity in the Pirin range.

The mountain sits in Blagoevgrad Province in southwestern Bulgaria, within Pirin National Park, and is approached from valley settlements and trailheads that serve the park’s network of mountain huts and routes.
