The Vienna International Centre is a complex of office and conference buildings in Vienna that houses several United Nations agencies and international organizations. It is commonly known as UNO-City and functions as one of the UN’s major office sites.

The complex contains office towers, meeting halls and conference facilities used for diplomatic meetings, international conferences and agency offices. It is a focal point for multilateral activity in Vienna and receives delegations and registered visitors.

Built and expanded in the latter half of the 20th century, the site was developed specifically to host international organizations and their conference needs. The campus is operated with security and administrative arrangements appropriate to international governance functions.

Located in the Donaustadt district on the eastern side of Vienna, the complex sits adjacent to the Danube and is served by the U1 metro at the Kaisermfchlen - Vienna International Centre station.

  • Public transport: Served by the Vienna U-Bahn line U1 at the Kaisermfchlen - Vienna International Centre station, providing direct public transport access from central Vienna.
  • UNO-City: Often referred to as UNO-City, it hosts multiple international agencies and regular diplomatic conferences, so security and entry rules differ from public museums.

How to Get to Vienna International Centre #

The Vienna International Centre (UNO City) sits on the Danube in Vienna’s 22nd district and is served directly by the U-Bahn U1 (station name: Kaisermühlen - VIC). From the U1 station it is a very short walk (2-5 minutes) to the complex. By car it is about 6 km northeast of central Vienna (follow the Reichsbrücke across the Danube and local Donaustadt roads), with parking and drop-off areas near the Centre.

Tips for Visiting Vienna International Centre #

  • Use the Kaisermühlen/VIC U-Bahn (U1) stop for the most direct public-transport access and arrive early in the morning to avoid large conference groups and bused tours.
  • Check the UN Vienna (VIC) website ahead of your visit for guided-tour times and ID/security requirements - visitors must pass security and guided tours fill up.
  • When you finish the visit, walk the nearby Danube promenade for quieter views and fewer tourists than the area immediately around the complex.
