Victoria Island is an urban island and district in Lagos State, Nigeria, that functions as one of the city’s main commercial and upscale residential areas. It is a central business and leisure district within metropolitan Lagos.

The area contains a concentration of offices, hotels, shopping and nightlife, as well as diplomatic and financial services. Much of the built environment is mixed-use high-density development, with waterfront roads and beach access along the island’s southern edge.

The district sits between the Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean and is connected by road links and bridges to adjacent Lagos neighborhoods, making it a primary transit and commercial node within the city.

  • Commercial and residential hub: Home to many of Lagos State's corporate offices, upscale hotels, restaurants and nightlife, making it one of the city's primary commercial and entertainment districts.
  • Well connected location: Sits between the Atlantic Ocean and Lagos Lagoon and is linked by several road connections and bridges to neighboring districts such as Ikoyi and Lagos Island.

How to Get to Victoria Island, Lagos #

Victoria Island is effectively contiguous with Lagos Island and Ikoyi. From Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport, allow 40-90 minutes by car depending on traffic via the Lagos-Ikeja Expressway and Alfred Rewane Road (up to 25 km). From the central business district of Lagos Island, cross the Carter Bridge or take the Eti-Osa/Oniru roads from Lekki. Rideshares (Bolt, Uber) and metered taxis are the usual options; there is no metro service to the island yet.

  • Visit early morning (before 8:00) to see the fishermen and avoid traffic on the Mackenzie-Ikoyi bridge.
  • Take the Ikoyi-Victoria Island waterfront walk after sunset; the city lights and ocean breeze make for better photographs than daytime glare.
  • If using rideshare, specify 'Palace of the Governor' or 'Muri Okunola Park' as nearby landmarks to avoid being dropped on the wrong side of busy commercial strips.
