How to Get to Veria
Veria (Veroia) is most easily reached via Thessaloniki Airport (SKG); from Thessaloniki the KTEL intercity bus is the most reliable public link to Veria. The town is compact and local travel is straightforward by bus, taxi or on foot.
Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” (SKG): SKG is the main international gateway for Central Macedonia. From the airport take bus X1/78 or a taxi into Thessaloniki city centre (20-30 minutes, bus ≈€1.20-€2, taxi ≈€20-€30) and then catch a KTEL Intercity bus from the Macedonia Bus Station to Veria; the total door-to-door time is typically 1.5-2 hours.
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH): If arriving into Athens, fly or take the internal flight/rail to Thessaloniki or travel by overnight train/bus; expect overall travel to Veria to take 6-7 hours including the Athens-Thessaloniki leg.
Train: Veria has a railway station on regional lines, but services to Thessaloniki are limited and slower than buses; direct rail travel can take 1.5-2 hours when available-check Hellenic Train timetables for current service.
Bus: KTEL Imathias runs frequent buses between Veria and Thessaloniki (Macedonia Bus Station). Buses take about 1h15-1h30 and fares are typically in the €6-€10 range depending on the service; buses are usually the most convenient and frequent public option.
