Veľké Hincovo pleso

Veľké Hincovo pleso is a high‑mountain glacial lake in the High Tatras of Slovakia, notable as the largest and deepest tarn in that range. It lies in a steep cirque surrounded by rocky peaks.

The lake is a compact, scenic mountain basin popular with hikers and photographers; trails approach the shore from neighboring valleys and mountain huts. Conservatively shaped shoreline and clear alpine water make it a frequent stop on multi‑day hikes in the Tatra massif.

Formed by glacial processes during the last ice age, the basin has held water since the retreat of the glacier; it has no human construction history and has remained a natural mountain lake. Management and trail maintenance fall under the Tatra National Park authorities.

Geographically it sits in the Slovak High Tatras, above the tree line on steep alpine slopes roughly within the Tatra mountain range; the nearest major town for access and services is Poprad, with trailheads leading into the mountain valleys that reach the lake.
