Velež is a mountain massif in Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, located south of the city of Mostar and forming part of the Dinaric Alps. The massif overlooks the surrounding valleys and the Neretva river corridor.
The mountain offers hiking and scramble routes and viewpoints that look down over Mostar and the river valley; its slopes are a mix of forested sections and karstic rock. The highest elevations on the massif reach close to 1,970 metres above sea level.
Velež takes its name from Slavic tradition and dominates the skyline to the south of Mostar, providing a clear geographic landmark visible from the city. It forms part of the complex mountainous terrain of southern Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The massif lies immediately south of Mostar and is part of the greater Dinaric mountain chain that runs along the western Balkans.
