Vashlovani National Park
National Park Dry-steppe park noted for canyons and unique flora
Eastern Georgian park of arid steppe, stony canyons and sparse woodlands; visitors come for rugged hiking, birdwatching and to experience remote Kakheti landscapes.
Vashlovani National Park is a protected area in eastern Georgia’s Kakheti region characterized by dry steppes, forest-steppe and canyon landscapes. The park preserves habitats that are drier and more open than much of Georgia’s surrounding highland terrain.
Hiking, wildlife viewing and birdwatching are primary activities, with visitors drawn to the park’s canyons, cliffs and isolated woodlands. The area supports a range of steppe and woodland species adapted to arid conditions.
The park was established to protect these distinctive semi-desert and forest-steppe habitats and the species they support. Management focuses on conservation of biodiversity alongside regulated visitor access.
It is located in eastern Kakheti in Georgia, in a generally lowland and gently rolling landscape that contrasts with the nearby Greater Caucasus to the north.
- Distinctive landscapes: Features semi-arid steppes, canyons and unique 'badland' landscapes that contrast with Georgia's more mountainous regions.

- Plan activities for early morning or late afternoon when wildlife (raptors, gazelles) is most active and the low light improves photography; midday in summer can be very hot and bird activity drops.
