Vargas Island Provincial Park is a provincial park in Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, protecting coastal rainforest and shoreline habitat. It conserves a stretch of temperate rainforest, rocky and sandy shorelines, and marine-influenced ecosystems characteristic of the region.

The park contains beaches, coastal trails and backcountry camping opportunities, along with intertidal and offshore areas used for sea kayaking and wildlife viewing. Wildlife commonly seen includes seabirds, marine mammals offshore and coastal mammals such as black-tailed deer and black bears; marine activities focus on paddling and shoreline exploration.

The lands and waters of the park lie within the traditional territory of Nuu-chah-nulth peoples. The area is administered and managed as a provincial park by BC Parks for conservation and low-impact recreation.

The park sits on Vargas Island in Clayoquot Sound, off the west coast of Vancouver Island near the town of Tofino. Visitors must travel by private boat, water taxi or sea kayak from Tofino or nearby communities to reach the island.

How to Get to Vargas Island Provincial Park #

Vargas Island Provincial Park is off the west coast of Vancouver Island and has no road access. Travel to Tofino on Vancouver Island (by car via Highway 4 or by air) and from Tofino Harbour take a licensed water taxi or boat charter to Vargas Island-trip times vary but commonly run about 20-45 minutes depending on sea conditions. There are no vehicle or regular ferry services; access is by private boat, water taxi, or kayak.
