The Vardenis mountain range is a highland massif in eastern Armenia forming the southeastern rim of the Lake Sevan basin. The range comprises volcanic and metamorphic peaks and ridges, with multiple summits rising above 3,000 metres.
The area is used for grazing, forestry and seasonal recreation rather than intensive tourism; mountain routes and local roads provide access to viewpoints and alpine pastures. Natural features include steep slopes down to the lake basin, ridgelines and montane ecosystems supporting regional flora and fauna.
The range originated through volcanic and tectonic processes that shaped Armenia’s highlands and continues to be a distinct physiographic barrier between the Sevan basin and the surrounding valleys. Local settlements and transport routes lie on its lower flanks, while higher terrain remains sparsely populated.
Geographically the Vardenis range sits southeast of Lake Sevan in Gegharkunik province; the town of Vardenis lies on its southwestern edge and provides the nearest services and access points.
