Valle de los Ingenios, the Valley of the Sugar Mills near Trinidad in central Cuba, is a cultural landscape formed by sugar plantations and mills dating mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage inscription that includes the historic town of Trinidad.
Visitors encounter ruined sugar mills, plantation houses and stone chimneys set in a valley landscape, with lookout towers such as a prominent 19th-century watchtower offering panoramic views. The area provides insight into the scale of colonial-era sugar production and its associated architecture.
The valley grew into a major center of sugar production during the colonial and post-colonial period, relying on enslaved and later wage labor to operate large haciendas and mills. Many of the mills ceased operation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, leaving the remains visitors see today.
Located in Sancti Spíritus Province near the town of Trinidad on Cuba’s southern central coast, the valley sits between rolling hills and coastal plains and is accessed from Trinidad and nearby roads.

- Concentration of ruins: The valley preserves numerous mill ruins and plantation structures that are concentrated along valley roads and accessible from Trinidad.
