Valdes Island

Valdes Island is an island in the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia, and is counted among the Gulf Islands off the east coast of Vancouver Island. The island is primarily rural and used for recreation and low-density residential use.

The coastline offers beaches, forested trails and informal camping spots that attract boaters, paddlers and anglers. There are few services on the island, so visits are typically day trips or private stays by those with their own boats.

Indigenous Coast Salish peoples used and occupied islands in this region for centuries; European charting and naming occurred in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today the island remains sparsely developed and is valued for its natural shoreline and quiet character.

Valdes Island sits in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland, accessible only by private watercraft or charter services.
