Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga Religious Site

Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga (often called Baidyanath) is a Hindu temple complex in Deoghar, in the Santhal Parganas region of Jharkhand, India, revered as one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. It is an important pilgrimage centre in eastern India.

The complex centres on the main Shiva shrine and associated ritual spaces used for darshan and circumambulation. The site is best known for its mass pilgrimage activity during the month of Shravan, when large numbers of devotees travel on foot to offer prayers and carry out vows.

The shrine is ancient in origin and has been rebuilt and expanded repeatedly over centuries; it is linked in tradition to episodes of the Ramayana and to longstanding regional devotional practice. The present complex reflects layers of construction and ongoing religious use rather than a single founding date.

The temple sits in the town of Deoghar in Jharkhand and forms the focal point of the town’s religious and pilgrimage economy.
