The island has a long local history of fishing, small-scale farming and coastal trade typical of the Roslagen islands. Over the 20th century it developed into a popular area for summer homes and recreational boating.
Located off Sweden’s east coast in the Baltic Sea, Väddö sits in Stockholm County within the Roslagen archipelago, northeast of the city of Stockholm and close to the town of Norrtälje.

Väddö is reached by road from the mainland - the island is connected by bridges to Rådmansö and the larger archipelago ferries and buses that serve northern Stockholm’s coastal routes. Driving from central Stockholm takes around 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic.
