How to Get to Utwe
Utwe is on Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia and is reached by air via Kosrae International Airport (KSA) with regional connections. On-arrival road transport is by taxi or pre-arranged transfer; inter-island sea services are irregular and should not be relied on without confirmation.
Kosrae International Airport (KSA): Kosrae’s airport is the island’s air hub with regional connections (most flights link via Pohnpei or other Micronesian hubs). Flight frequencies are limited so check schedules in advance. From Kosrae Airport a taxi or short drive will get you to coastal villages such as Utwe in about 10-20 minutes; taxi fares are modest (generally a few US dollars) but exact fares depend on arrangements at arrival.
Regional sea links: Inter-island travel in FSM is occasionally handled by small passenger vessels and cargo boats; schedules are irregular and should be confirmed locally. Sea travel can take considerably longer than air but is an option for freight or island-hopping when available.
Train: There are no rail services on Kosrae.
Road transport & taxis: There is no formal public bus network on Kosrae; road travel is by private car, taxi or occasional shared rides. Renting a car or arranging hotel transport is the most reliable way to reach Utwe from the airport. Walking and cycling are common for short distances within villages; fuel and rental services are limited so plan ahead.
