Umm Bab City
Industrial town on Qatar's east coast
On Qatar’s western strand, Umm Bab has low coastal cliffs, salt-encrusted flats and access to the Zekreet peninsula’s eroded limestone sculptures. Visitors camp, off-road across sand and watch sun drop over oil rigs and lonely dunes.
Why Visit Umm Bab?#
Umm Bab serves as a quiet gateway to western Qatar’s desert scenery and industrial history. Visitors often use the town as a base for exploring nearby limestone formations and beaches at Zekreet and Ras Abrouq, where dramatic rock outcrops invite hiking and photography. The region also tells the story of Qatar’s early oil development, so interest often combines natural landscapes with an industrial‑heritage perspective.
