Ulriken
Mountain Bergen's highest city mountain with panoramic views
Ulriken, the highest of Bergen’s seven mountains, offers a cable car and hiking routes; visitors seek panoramic views over the city and surrounding fjords.
Ulriken is the highest of the mountains surrounding Bergen in western Norway and rises to 643 metres above sea level. It forms a prominent landmark to the east of the city and is known for panoramic views over Bergen and its fjords.
A cable car provides easy access from the city suburbs to the summit and a network of marked trails runs from the summit along the adjacent ridge and down into the surrounding valleys, used by walkers and trail runners. The summit area includes viewing platforms and facilities for visitors arriving by cable car or on foot.
The mountain is a natural feature shaped by local geology and weathering and has been a recreational destination for Bergen residents and visitors for more than a century. Modern visitor infrastructure at the summit supports tourism while the trails retain their traditional use for local outdoor recreation.
Ulriken sits immediately east of central Bergen in Vestland county, with the summit rising above the city’s eastern suburbs. The cable car and main access paths start within a few kilometres of Bergen’s urban area, making the mountain one of the most accessible high viewpoints in the region.
