Uetliberg is a wooded mountain ridge and popular viewpoint southwest of the city of Zurich, rising to 871 metres above sea level. It is the highest point of the local Albis ridge and a well known recreational area for city residents and visitors.
The summit area includes a lookout tower and restaurant, and from the top there are sweeping views across Zurich, Lake Zurich and the distant Alps on clear days. The site is served by the Uetlibergbahn (S10), which provides a direct rail link from Zurich Hauptbahnhof in about 20 to 30 minutes.
A network of marked hiking and biking trails radiates from the summit, including the Planetenweg footpath that links Uetliberg to Felsenegg and represents the solar system at scale. The area is used year-round for walking, trail running and as an accessible mountain viewpoint.
Uetliberg lies within the Canton of Zurich on the western edge of the city, part of the Albis hill range that forms a natural backdrop to Zurich.

How to Get to Uetliberg #
Take the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) S10 from Zürich Hauptbahnhof (main station) direct to Uetliberg station - the ride is about 20-30 minutes. From Uetliberg station it is a short walk (around 10-20 minutes) along marked paths to the summit viewpoint and restaurant. By car the Uetliberg hill is roughly 8-12 km from Zurich city centre (about a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic) with parking available near the top.
Tips for Visiting Uetliberg #
- Take the S10 Uetlibergbahn from Zürich Hauptbahnhof to avoid parking and enjoy a scenic ~20-30 minute ride; the train drops you within a short stroll of the summit.
- Extend your visit along the Planetenweg (Planet Trail) ridge toward Felsenegg instead of turning back at the summit-many visitors miss the longer ridge views and the quieter outlooks.
- Aim for sunrise or sunset for the best light and far-reaching views over Zurich and the lake; during fine weather the summit lookout tower gives excellent 360° panoramas.
- Avoid weekend mid-afternoons if you want fewer people-weekday mornings or evenings are quieter, and train timetables are frequent but check return times if you stay late.
