Ua Huka is a small volcanic island in the northern group of the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. It is one of the lesser-populated Marquesan islands and retains a traditional island culture and rugged landscape.

The island offers rocky coasts, sea-accessible coves, archaeological remains and small villages where local crafts and cultural practices are visible; tourism infrastructure is limited compared with larger Polynesian islands. Outdoor activities are primarily walking, snorkeling and cultural visits rather than developed resort facilities.

Ua Huka has been inhabited by Marquesan people for centuries and contains archaeological sites and traditional settlements reflecting that long history. European contact and later French administration brought new trade and connections, but the island has remained lightly populated and culturally distinct within the Marquesas.

Ua Huka lies in the northern Marquesas archipelago in the central South Pacific, administered as part of French Polynesia and accessible by inter-island flights from larger Marquesan hubs.

  • Airport access: An airport serves the island with inter-island flights that connect Ua Huka to other islands in the Marquesas and French Polynesia, easing access for visitors and supplies.

Tips for Visiting Ua Huka #

  • Ua Huka is served by infrequent inter-island flights from other Marquesas islands, so coordinate transport and accommodation well in advance and confirm flight schedules with Air Tahiti or local carriers before travel.
