Tykocin Synagogue

Tykocin Synagogue is a 17th-century synagogue in the town of Tykocin in Podlaskie Voivodeship, north-eastern Poland. Built in the mid 1600s, it is one of the best-preserved Baroque synagogues in the country.

The building houses a single large prayer hall with historic liturgical fittings and an upper women’s gallery; many original interior elements survive and are the main attraction for visitors. The synagogue now functions as a museum and cultural site where visitors can see the prayer space and decorative details up close.

Constructed in the mid 17th century, the synagogue served Tykocin’s Jewish community until the Second World War. The local Jewish community was destroyed during the German occupation in 1941 and the building was later restored and converted to a museum and memorial site in the 20th century.

The synagogue stands on the market square of Tykocin, on the Narew river floodplain in Podlaskie Voivodeship, roughly 30 km west of Białystok.
