Tweedsmuir Provincial Park is a large protected area in central British Columbia established in 1938. The park covers extensive mountainous and valley terrain spanning interior and coastal mountain environments.
The park encompasses rugged mountains, glaciers, lakes and river valleys, and includes the Bella Coola valley on its western edge where lowland river corridors meet coastal mountains. Recreational opportunities include multi-day backcountry hiking, river travel and remote wildlife viewing; parts of the park are accessed by long forest roads or by air.
Tweedsmuir is organized into northern and southern sections that differ in character and access, with wetter coastal-influenced landscapes to the west and more interior alpine terrain to the east.
Created in 1938 by the provincial government, the park was named for John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir. Its boundaries and management have evolved to balance wilderness protection with access for recreation and Indigenous land uses.
