Turning Torso
Building Twisted residential skyscraper and Malmö architectural landmark
Malmö’s Turning Torso by Santiago Calatrava twists 54 floors above the Western Harbour. Architects and passersby note its sculptural form; the waterfront district links to promenades and the Öresund Bridge.
Turning Torso is a residential and office skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden, designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in the mid-2000s. The tower is notable for its twisting geometry and is a landmark of Malmö’s waterfront redevelopment.
The building rotates roughly 90 degrees from its base to the top across its stack of floors and rises to approximately 190 metres with just over 50 storeys. Its distinctive silhouette and engineering make it a focal point for the Västra Hamnen neighbourhood.
Turning Torso was conceived as part of a broader redevelopment of the former industrial and harbour area into mixed-use urban fabric. The tower is predominantly residential with some office space and is visually prominent from waterfront promenades and nearby green spaces.
