Main image

Tumacácori National Historical Park in southern Arizona preserves the ruins, church and grounds of a Spanish colonial mission complex and associated historic resources. The park interprets Spanish colonial, Native American and Mexican-era history in the Sonoran borderlands.

The park’s focal point is the mission church ruins and adjacent historic adobe structures set within a small park landscape, with interpretive exhibits that explain mission life, agriculture and interactions with local Indigenous communities. Trails and interpretive panels allow visitors to view masonry, architectural features and archaeological remains up close.

The mission complex was established during Spanish colonial efforts in the region and later evolved through Mexican and early American periods; structures preserved today reflect construction and use during the 18th and 19th centuries. The site entered federal protection to preserve the mission ruins and associated historic landscape.

Located in Santa Cruz County in southern Arizona near the town of Tubac, the park sits in the Sonoran Desert along a historic corridor south of Tucson and relatively close to the U.S.-Mexico border.
