Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier
Area Harbour ferry pier serving Victoria Harbour crossings
On the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, the ferry piers link Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Tourists ride the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, photograph the skyline, reach museums and shopping along Canton Road, and take evening harbour promenades.
The Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier at the southern tip of Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, is the Kowloon terminal for Star Ferry services across Victoria Harbour.
The pier provides frequent ferry connections to Hong Kong Island terminals including Central and Wan Chai; crossings are short and used by both commuters and visitors. The waterfront area beside the pier is a popular place to view the Hong Kong skyline and the nightly harbour light show.
Star Ferry services between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island date back to the late 19th century; the pier has been rebuilt and relocated over time but remains the principal public ferry terminal on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront.
Located on the southern edge of Tsim Sha Tsui, the pier sits adjacent to the Clock Tower and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, facing Victoria Harbour and opposite the Central business district on Hong Kong Island.
- Cross-harbour routes: Regular cross-harbour ferries run to Central and Wan Chai; the crossing to Central typically takes about eight minutes.
- Viewing point: The waterfront beside the pier provides one of the best public viewpoints for Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong Island skyline, especially during the evening light show.
How to Get to Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier #
The pier sits at the southern end of Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, a two-minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station (Exit E) or a five- to ten-minute walk from East Tsim Sha Tsui Station. On foot, follow the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade toward the Clock Tower; the Star Ferry terminal is a short walk from the tower. Taxis can drop at Salisbury Road; buses and trams serve nearby Nathan Road.
Tips for Visiting Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier #
- Take the upper deck for the best skyline photos - the breeze and the squeak of the timbers make the crossing feel like a tiny ritual.
- Arrive before sunset to watch the light change across Victoria Harbour; nights are crowded for the Symphony of Lights.
- Use the pier at the southern end of Salisbury Road - it's less confusing than trying to find the 'lower' and 'upper' boarding points when the crowds swell.
- If short on time, board the ferry rather than the MTR tunnel - the view is the point.
Best Time to Visit Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier #
Best visited in clear, cool months (autumn and winter) for the most dramatic skyline visibility; evenings are busiest but most atmospheric.
