Castle Romantic castle ruins atop twin volcanic rock peaks
Sited on twin volcanic plugs in the Bohemian Paradise, Trosky Castle’s ruined towers offer panoramic views; hikers visit for dramatic rock formations, climbing paths and the remains of medieval fortifications.
Trosky Castle is a ruined medieval fortress perched atop two volcanic basalt plugs in the Bohemian Paradise area of the Czech Republic, visually dominated by its twin tower remains. The dramatic twin peaks make it one of the region’s most recognisable medieval ruins and a local hiking destination.
Visitors follow paths to the ruin to see the remaining walls and the two towers that rise from the rocky plugs, providing wide views across the surrounding sandstone and forested landscape. The site is popular with walkers and photographers for its ruined silhouettes and vantage points.
Construction of the castle began in the late 14th century; it was built as a fortified residence and modified through the medieval period before falling into ruin in later centuries. The remaining towers and walls reflect those medieval building phases and the castle’s defensive siting.
