Tropicana Field

Tropicana Field is a domed multi-purpose stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the home ballpark of the Major League Baseball team the Tampa Bay Rays. It opened in 1990 and is one of the few fixed-roof stadiums in Major League Baseball.

The venue offers a climate-controlled interior with seating configured for baseball, concerts, and other large events; baseball seating is roughly 25,000 with higher limits for other configurations. The interior includes concourses, concession areas, and sightlines affected by the dome and internal structures such as catwalks that are visible from much of the seating bowl.

Conceived as the Florida Suncoast Dome, the facility was completed and opened in 1990 and later became known as Tropicana Field after naming-rights deals. It became the permanent home of the Tampa Bay Rays when the franchise began play as an expansion club in 1998 and has undergone periodic renovations and seating reconfigurations since then.

The stadium sits in St. Petersburg in Pinellas County on the west side of Tampa Bay, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Tampa and within the urban area of the Tampa Bay region.
