Trollheimen is a mountain range in central Norway spanning parts of Møre og Romsdal and neighbouring counties, known for varied alpine terrain. The area contains rugged peaks, plateaus, valleys, lakes, and extensive hiking routes used by day walkers and multi-day trekkers.
Trail networks link mountain huts and access points, and the region is used for summer hiking and winter ski touring by outdoor enthusiasts. Peaks in the range rise to roughly 1,600 metres, producing alpine conditions at higher elevations.
The landscape was shaped by glacial and geological processes typical of Norway’s interior highlands. Land management includes marked routes and mountain lodges used by the Norwegian Trekking Association and other operators.
Trollheimen lies inland in central Norway, with access from roads and towns at the range edges; it occupies a region between coastal fjord areas and the interior plateaus of central Norway.

How to Get to Trollheimen #
Access points include Oppdal to the south and Surnadal to the north. By public transport, take regional trains to Oppdal then local buses toward trailheads. Many walkers arrive by car and use marked parking at trailheads for popular entrances such as Ålvundeid and Gjevilvassdalen.
