Troldhaugen is the former home and museum of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, located on the outskirts of Bergen; the property preserves his villa, composing hut and an on-site concert venue. It is a cultural site dedicated to Grieg’s life and music, open to the public for tours and performances.
Highlights on the site include the small wooden composing hut where Grieg wrote many works, the restored family villa with original furnishings, and a museum with manuscripts and personal items. The museum runs regular chamber music concerts in a small hall set within the grounds.
Grieg bought the property in 1885, had the villa constructed and used Troldhaugen as his principal home and creative retreat until his death in 1907. The site was later preserved as a museum to display his life and work and to host musical events.
Troldhaugen sits on a wooded plot near Bergen in western Norway, immediately outside the city, and is accessible by road from the Bergen city area.
