Travnik City
City in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Ottoman heritage
Travnik’s fortress watches terracotta roofs and Ottoman bazaars below; the town claims a particular recipe for ćevapi and a compact old town to explore. Visitors pass through for fortress walks, nearby Vlašić skiing, and savory grilled meat.
Why Visit Travnik?#
Nestled in a river valley, Travnik attracts travelers interested in Ottoman-era history and Bosnian culinary traditions-try the town’s own ćevapi and burek at neighborhood bakeries. The hilltop Travnik Fortress and the vividly painted Orthodox and Ottoman houses frame the old town, giving it a distinctive, layered character. Local cafés serve thick Bosnian coffee under shaded squares, making it an appealing stop for cultural immersion.
