Transfiguration Cathedral, Chernihiv

The Transfiguration Cathedral (Spaso-Preobrazhensky) in Chernihiv is an early medieval Orthodox cathedral founded in the 11th century. It is one of the oldest surviving church buildings in Ukraine and a key monument of medieval Rus architecture.

The building presents a compact, multi-domed masonry structure with thick stone walls and historic interior spaces; the cathedral complex is an important example of early East Slavic ecclesiastical architecture. Visitors typically view the exterior elevations, domes, and surviving medieval fabric that illustrate construction techniques of the period.

Founded in the 11th century as a princely cathedral for the Chernihiv principality, the church has undergone repairs and reconstructions in later centuries while retaining early masonry work.
