The Transdanubian Mountains are a collection of low to mid-elevation ranges and uplands in western Hungary, located to the west of the Danube. The complex includes several distinct subranges such as Bakony, Vértes, Gerecse and the Pilis/Buda Hills and forms the backbone of the Transdanubian landscape.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes extensive hiking and cycling routes, lookout points over valleys and lakes, karst caves and mixed forest ecosystems. Several subranges are historically important for local industries such as forestry and quarrying, and contain small towns and villages serving as bases for visitors.
The ranges are part of Hungary’s interior highland system and sit between the Danube River to the east and Lake Balaton and the Transdanubian plains to the west. The landscape transitions from wooded hills to lower agricultural plains near the major rivers.
- Geographic setting: The region lies west of the Danube and includes a mix of volcanic and sedimentary uplands used for forestry, agriculture and recreation.

- Pilis and Buda Hills: Pilis and Buda Hills - upland areas closer to Budapest with popular hiking routes, lookout points and historical sites.
