Trail of Remembrance and Comradeship

The Trail of Remembrance and Comradeship is a memorial walking and cycling path that encircles the city of Ljubljana, Slovenia, established to mark and preserve the route of the barbed-wire enclosure that surrounded the city during the Second World War.

The marked route runs for approximately 33 kilometres and uses a mix of paved promenades, city park paths and wooded tracks; users can walk or cycle the whole loop or complete it in sections. Along the trail there are plaques and information points that note its wartime history and its role as a civic memorial.

The path follows the historical boundary set by occupying forces in the 1940s and was later preserved and signposted by the city as a space for remembrance and everyday recreation.

Geographically the trail closely encircles Ljubljana’s urban area, passing through municipal parks, suburban green belts and patches of woodland that sit around the city centre; access points and connections to public transport are available at multiple places around the loop.
