Torres dels Serrans
Tower Medieval city gate and Valencian defensive tower
Torres dels Serrans is Valencia’s preserved medieval gate and former city wall segment. Visitors explore stone towers, climb for city views and learn about Valencia’s defensive architecture and civic history.
The Torres dels Serrans are a pair of monumental medieval towers that once formed part of Valencia’s city walls and served as a principal northern gate. They are a surviving section of Valencia’s former defensive circuit and remain a prominent historic landmark in the city.
The structure comprises two massive flanking towers linked by a vaulted passage and was used for city defense and controlled access. Later in its history the gate complex has been used for ceremonial purposes and at times for civic functions rather than strictly military defense.
Built in the medieval period as part of Valencia’s fortifications, the towers have survived urban changes that removed much of the original wall. They have been conserved and are open to the public for visits and for views over the city’s old quarters and the Turia garden area.
Located at the northern edge of Valencia’s old town, the Torres dels Serrans stand near the former river course and the modern Turia park, within easy walking distance of central Valencia.
- Preservation: One of Valencia's best-preserved medieval gates, with twin towers that frame the historic approach from the old riverbed area.
How to Get to Torres dels Serrans #
From Valencia city centre, walk northeast from Plaza de la Virgen (about 15-20 minutes) or take bus lines that stop along Calle Serranos. The towers are a 10-minute walk from the Torres de Quart and are accessible on foot within the Ciutat Vella (old town).
