Torre de la Plata is a small medieval defensive tower in Seville, Andalusia, dating to the medieval Islamic period (commonly attributed to the 13th century). It formed part of the city’s historic walls and defensive system.
The structure is a cylindrical masonry tower visible from nearby streets and riverside walkways; it is compact and usually visited as a short stop alongside other Seville sights. The tower presents exterior medieval stonework and is set close to other fragments of the old city fortifications.
Built as part of Seville’s medieval fortifications under Muslim rule, the tower served a defensive role in the city’s walls. Over time the surrounding walls were altered and sections removed; the tower remains as one of several surviving fragments of the original fortifications.
Sited within Seville’s historic core in the province of Andalusia, the tower stands near the banks of the Guadalquivir and close to the city centre and other riverside monuments. It is within easy walking distance of the old town.
